Posted by ritma on 07:29

Description of Narrative Writing
Narrative writing tells a story that happens in the past. Good narrative writing is more than a list of random events. It sets up the tale, builds to a high point, and winds down during the resolution. Narrative writing usually has tension – a problem to be solved or a challenge to be overcome. There is a reason for the telling. It also has a setting (a time and place within which events occur) and characters (who may include the narrator, the person recounting the story).

How is Narrative Writing Different from Other Writing Genres?

Narrative writing and recount writing are almost same. They tell about past events. What makes narrative different from other genres especially recount is that narrative writing has tension or a problem/conflict to be solved, it may end with sad or happy ending. While recount writing only tells about series of events in the logical order.

Here’s the difference between them :
·        Narrative Writing

·        Recount Writing

How to Make a Narrative Writing

To write a narrative essay, you’ll need to tell a story (usually about something that happened to you) in such a way that he audience learns a lesson or gains insight. Tell a story about a moment or event that means a lot to you--it will make it easier for you to tell the story in an interesting way!

Steps for writing effective narrative :
Introduction
·     The introduction grabs the reader’s attention.
·     The setting for the story is described.
·     Some characters are introduced.
·     Give a hint of the problem to come.

·     Provide lots of details, adjectives, adverbs and action words.
·     The problem or excitement is outlined.
·     All characters are introduced and discussed.
·     Conside the sequence of events.

     Example :

Ending
·     Final resolution of the problem.
·     The ending is effective; could be happy, startling, sad etc.
·     Provide a final thought or moral message (coda)

PLAN B
One of bad experience in my life was failure of being accepted in the university. It happened after my father bought me a new notebook. I was a good student actually. People called me Ritma.
In the beautiful day, I was very happy that my father bought me a notebook, it was a cool thing that I really wanted for a long time. Everything was fine in the beginning, but as the time went by, my whole days turned into an ‘insanity’. I spent my whole days in front of my notebook without any reasons. I did not really care anymore about my school, my grade, or even people around me.  I felt more alive in my own world. My mother asked me to stop it and started studying because the test enter a university was closer, I just answered by saying “yes, mom...” but I did not do it at all.
One day, my father found that I never studied for the test, he was angry then decided to send me to join the course for about one month and I said “okay”. It did not change anything at all. After went home, I did the same thing just as before.
The test was getting closer and finally it was begun. I still did not have any idea what I had learnt from my course, I just answered the questions that I knew, and the rest were by my own instinct. After that, my parents asked me about the test, I just simply said that it was not that bad. They seemed did not trust my words, I just smiled. My father said that if I could not pass the test, he would be very angry and about to do a bad thing or somekind of that. I thought that he would like to kill me.
Two weeks after the test, the result was announced via online. I could not hide my fears anymore. My parents impatiently waited me to say a word, I knew that they really wanted me to say “I am accepted”. I opened my account and checked it. I was panic and scared when I saw the words “sorry, you are not accepted”. I was confused how to tell that to my parents. I knew for sure that they would be very angry if they saw it, but I decided to let them knew and I had to take all the risk that I had made. I listened to all my father’s anger and I just cried without any words came out by my mouth. That day was so gloomy and my eyes were so puffy because of my tears.
Suddenly, my mother said to me slowly to stop crying, but I cried even harder and just could say sorry. She said that she had prepared the plan B for the worst condition. So, my mother asked me to prepare all the things to register on the other university, and she said that she did not want to see me sad anymore. I thanked her so much. At that time, I thought that my mother was a very kind person in the world. Then, I started to study hard and promised to never do the same thing anymore.
Finally, I was accepted in Muhammadiyah University of Metro. I had learnt many things from that experience, never go full retard, do not be lazy to study, and always listen to your parents’ words. “Success” depends on the second letter of the word. If plan A  did not work, the alphabet still has 25 more letters.
